Annospace

Garth Somerville

Currently looking for opportunities

June 13, 2007

Annospace is a social reading and annotation experiment for documents. It was also my first Flex application.

It is different from other "sticky note" and highlighter type solutions in that annotations are hierarchical and scoped to whole words, phrases, sentences, paragraphs, and chapters. The idea is to prevent the chaos of arbitrary comments and support hundreds of comments in a document in a manageable, organized way.

It is built using Flex and Python and runs on Google App Engine. The documents are stored in Amazon S3.

Building a simple GIS

Mark Gearhart

Sybase

June 2, 2008

I built two GIS-type applications. The first is a map of the world showing the Sybase offices (I work for Sybase). The second is a proof of concept for a mobile app to track vehicles. For this one, I used the UNC street map and put in fictional buildings and bus routes. Tools used:
- Adobe Illustrator
- Adobe Flex
- Adobe Flash
- Sybase ASE (for the world database)
- Sybase ASA (for the mobile database)

The Gourmez

Ben Gomez Farrell

April 17th, 2007

Hey everyone, just thought I'd get the ball rolling here with a small site I finished just a little while ago. My wife aspires to be a writer and loves to write about travel, food, and even a novel someday. We put together the Gourmez to review and guide those in the Triangle area to restaurants, cocktails, and wine. She updates as much as she can and while she writes about the new hip places won't shy away from writing about a great martini at Chili's. Becca did the writing, and I did the design, HTML, PHP, and content management.
