RDAUG Goes Bloggy

on Jun 22 in News (Adobe & RDAUG)

Hello everyone!

Well its just turning midnight, and I'm hitting the hay.  But I just finished some pretty big modifications to the RDAUG website.  I have some loose ends to tie up, but hopefully nothing you'll notice.

The big modification is the fact that we're using Mango Blog now for MOST of the site.  I wanted to do this for a couple reasons.  The first is that it'll be easier to administer now.  And the second (and this is my main reason behind this), is that I wanted people to be able to leave comments on meeting announcements, and news, and whatever else.

Meetings were the big thing.  I'll be announcing the incubator mini-meeting shortly, and I'll be having you comment your RSVP's and ideas for the meeting, right to the blog post.  I'm hoping this will serve to be an open, and public facing thing that'll tell you and I how much interest there is in a meeting before it happens - and it won't be a surprise to anyone anymore!  And then we can start to tailor make these meetings and mini-meetings to serve the public interest, rather than have me stab in the dark at what your thoughts and feelings are.

As always, I invite member showcase submissions (which are rolled into the blog now).  And I also welcome any tips and resource blog posts you can write up and send to me.  For folks I know and trust, I'd be happy to give you user accounts so you can log in and write your own posts (especially for news and tips).

My last request is this - if you notice anything that's not working, please let me know!  You can write me at admin@rdaug.org, or even comment in this post.  And yes, I DO notice that the RSS feed for the blog doesn't work, and I don't know why.  If anybody can clue me in, please do!

By the way, I know that some of you said the calendar wasn't working, so I moved that off to its own page.  I need to start putting some events on it again, so if anyone knows of anything coming up, let me know.

Thanks!

Get Switchboard at: http://labs.adobe.com/wiki/index.php/SwitchBoard
So....remember Eric's presentation on scripting and automation in Adobe applications? Well Switchboard is a swc that plugs right into Flex/AIR to create applications that communicate with scriptable Adobe software. Very cool!

Annospace

Garth Somerville

Currently looking for opportunities

Annospace is a social reading and annotation experiment for documents. It was also my first Flex application.

It is different from other "sticky note" and highlighter type solutions in that annotations are hierarchical and scoped to whole words, phrases, sentences, paragraphs, and chapters. The idea is to prevent the chaos of arbitrary comments and support hundreds of comments in a document in a manageable, organized way.

It is built using Flex and Python and runs on Google App Engine. The documents are stored in Amazon S3.
