Why was this book such a page-turner for me? Could it be that I've been doing Flash work for years and want to see what all the hub-bub behind Flex is all about? Could it be that it was well written, and explained the concepts well? Could it be that I was on a 7 hour flight to California while I read it? I think all are true. In all seriousness, I feel like I have a pretty thorough picture of the basic concepts in Flex and what it can do. I've been actually too busy to try anything out in Flex, so my only Flex experience comes from this book - which when you think about it, that's pretty darn good. The book is very light on Flash player classes and how to program in Actionscript 3, but it's chock full of details on the Flex framework and how the Flex framework runs in the Flash player (quite interesting if you know Flash). Don't worry about not knowing Flash if getting this book, and actually don't even worry about knowing how to program. Most of the examples in the book are done with Flex's markup language MXML, and you rarely need to touch lots of Actionscript (though it helps!)

The RDAUG December meeting is coming up on 6:30PM Tuesday December 11th.
We don't have a presentation this month, so let's plan for a low-key, friendly meeting. We'll talk about what we did this past year - lets show off some of our projects, finished or unfinished, talk about new things learned, and whatever else comes to mind.
Personally, I've been quite busy this year, with many finished and unfinished projects. I've started using Fireworks recently, jumped into making a web page with Spry, and started using Flex, and I'd be happy to talk about all of them. There's even a few Flash pieces I've made that I can show.
But of course thats just me. You're all much more interesting than I am. Bring a URL, a CD, or just bring yourselves.
Again, yes, its a very chill and unplanned type of thing, but I hope it to be a nice friendly get together before getting down to serious business in January.
In January we'll have 2 action packed meetings - one on the 16th with Amazon Web Services Evangelist Mike Culver, and then on the 23rd Coldfusion Kung-Fu Master Ben Forta will join us for the Flex 3/AIR Pre-Release Tour.
And please RSVP with admin@rdaug.org if you can make it. It's our first meeting at TEK Systems, which will be graciously providing some refreshments, and I know he'll ask for a head count!
thanks everyone!
